At Just For Your Smile, we strongly believe our patients are entitled to the most comfortable, safe, and effective treatments available today. Whether you’re visiting us for a dental cleaning, examination, or one of our many other dental services, we will use the latest in dental technology to help ensure your ultimate satisfaction. Dr. Osseiran is dedicated to upholding the highest of standards in patient care and satisfaction.
A cone beam CT creates a 3D view and cross sections of the target area. The information it provides is critical for a number of situations, including placing dental implants, performing a complex root canal or extraction, or searching for the source of pain or infection. CBCT gives us the information we need about your condition before a dental procedure.
Aside from providing more complete information, dental CBCT scans emit very little radiation, equivalent to just one day of normal background radiation. The risk of such a low level of radiation is much less than that of getting an inaccurate diagnosis. A CBCT scan ensures that Dr. Osseiran will be able to diagnose you with the best possible accuracy.
Dental X-rays enable dentists to see decay inside teeth that would not be visible to the naked eye. This allows us to act earlier against cavities, which is much better for the teeth. However, X-rays do expose patients to radiation, which is why you always wear a lead apron when the images are being taken. Thanks to advances in technology, there is now a safer way to take these images.
Film X-rays have been used in dentistry for decades. In the past few years, many forward-thinking dentists like Dr. Osseiran have invested in digital X-ray technology. Film X-rays cost a bit less than digital X-rays but the increased exposure to film X-rays is more harmful to a patient’s overall health. Our digital X-ray emits as much as 85 percent less radiation than traditional X-ray technology.
Digital X-rays are one of the most important new advances in our office. We are not only able to reduce your exposure to radiation but also increase the diagnostic proficiency. In addition to increased diagnostics, we reduce the amount of harmful chemicals and other waste materials associated with traditional X-ray technology. The reduction in waste was a big consideration when deciding to invest in digital technology. We pride ourselves in being environmentally responsible.
At your next dental visit, please ask us any additional questions regarding our new digital X-ray technology or give us a call at 703-288-4700. Our first concern is your comfort and longterm overall health.
We’ve found that sometimes it’s difficult for our patients to understand the condition of their teeth the way that Dr. Osseiran does. One way that we improve our patients’ dental experience is through the use of an intraoral camera in our diagnosis.
An intraoral camera is a small, pen-like device with a camera on the end. The camera contains a bright LED which helps us diagnose cavities or fractures that are difficult to see with the naked eye. The camera is connected to a monitor which allows you to see up close what Dr. Osseiran is seeing. This dramatically improves your dental experience by helping you understand why Dr. Osseiran would recommend a certain treatment.
Our goal here at Just For Your Smile is to make your experience as easy and effective as possible, which is why we use an intraoral camera in our diagnostic process. Patients have routinely expressed their appreciation of our intraoral camera. They get to see up close the state of their teeth, including problems such as cracked teeth, decay, worn-out or defective fillings, bleeding gums, and tartar.
In the old days, in order to plan a patient’s orthodontic treatment and to prepare their invisible aligner trays or their clear retainers, we had to take the patient’s dental impression — and it wasn’t a particularly pleasant experience. Thanks to the wonders of modern technology, we can now get all the information we need to plan your orthodontic treatment with a quick scan of the inside of your mouth, no dental impressions required.
Unlike certain types of medical scanning equipment, including dental X-rays, the iTero scanner does not have to expose the patient to any radiation in order to do its job. As small as the risk is from the levels of exposure involved with other scanning equipment, with iTero, you don’t have to worry at all about any risks outweighing the benefits.
Gum disease is an inflammatory disease that affects gum tissue and the bones that support our teeth. Gum disease has also been found, in some studies, to increase the likelihood of several serious diseases including heart disease, diabetes, and respiratory disease. Modern dentistry has found that lasers can be very effective in treating gum disease.
Laser therapy can be used in several different ways:
Ultrasonics are instruments that use sonic energy to clean debris, remove posts, and prepare roots for root canals and apicoectomies. These instruments have smaller tips that allow Dr. Osseiran to complete root canal treatment and microsurgery with greater precision, giving patients better results.
Just as “ultraviolet” means electromagnetic waves that are beyond the range of human vision, “ultrasonic” means sound waves that have a frequency too high for us to hear. Our ultrasonic tools vibrate at these high frequencies, which makes them highly effective at performing critical tasks in the confined spaces inside and around a tooth.
